Mulching
Spread straw, dry leaves or water hyacinth over soil. It slows evaporation, suppresses weeds and rots into compost.
Watering
- Water early or late, soaking the base.
- Push a finger two inches in; if dry, water.
- Bottle drip: pierce a bottle and bury it upside down at the roots.
- Clay pot: bury a pot and fill it; water seeps out slowly.
- Drip lines for larger plots.
