Not every crop deserves equal space. Sort your plan into three groups:
- Majors: what your family eats most (greens, chili, brinjal, gourds). Give them the best spots.
- Minors: vegetables you eat now and then — a little space.
- Rookies: new, experimental crops. No more than 2–3 at a time.
Working out quantities
How many plants you need is not exact science — yields vary widely with soil. Start with a guess and adjust each season. Use the spacing planner and record results in the journal.
Draw your layout in pencil — you will change it.
